Immigration Reform and the State Courts

Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the State Courts

Beyond the four strategic priorities of the Immigration Initiative, CPPS and SJI also seek to inform the federal immigration reform process. President Obama has asserted that improving our broken immigration system is one of the fundamental components of his administration's immigration policy. Any reform to the current immigration system is dependent, in part, on the capacity and efficiency of the State Courts. A holistic understanding of the impact immigration has on State Courts will greatly enhance the effectiveness of immigration reform. Through policy papers and national presentations, the Immigration and the State Courts Initiative seeks to deepen the understanding of the impact immigration has on State Court services, processes, and administrators in order to inform comprehensive immigration reform and provide support for a more efficient reform process.
