Security and Safety Planning Projects

Washoe County Nevada/City of Reno Court Security Assessment. In the wake of the shooting of a family court judge, CPPS staff conducted a physical and organizational security assessment of the Reno Municipal Court, Washoe County Justice Court, and Washoe County District Court. 

Colorado Judicial Department Courthouse Security Project. CPPS staff completed work to: (1) update the state court system’s court security manual; (2) establish a statewide oversight committee of key stakeholders; and (3) conduct courthouse physical security assessments at targeted locations in Colorado. 

The Pennsylvania Judicial Council’s Committee on Judicial Safety and Preparedness. Working with the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Court and Judicial Council, CPPS staff provided an assessment of the safety and security of all court facilities in the Commonwealth. Additionally we developed a safety and security manual, protocols, and tools to improve courthouse safety and security.

Security Assessment for the La Plata County Courthouse and Old Main Post Office Building. CPPS staff conducted two physical security assessments for the La Plata County Courthouse and the Old Main Post Office (OMPO). 

17th Judicial District Court Security Project. CPPS worked with the 17thDistrict Court located in Brighton, CO to improve safety and security at the Adams County Courthouse.

First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Judicial Security Training Project. Our staff worked with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania located in Philadelphia, PA to inform and advise the Court’s 130 judges and court administrative staff with regard to improving safety and security at every facility operated by the Court.

Other Projects. CPPS staff has provided consulting advice and services regarding courthouse safety and security to the National Center for State Courts’ Best Practices Institute “Emergency Management for Courts,” the Conference of State Court Administrators, the Florida State Office of the State Court Administrator, the North Carolina Conference of Court Administrators, the National Conference of Court Public Information Officers, the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts, and the National Judicial College.
